Independence Day

Independence Day is celebrated all across the country and union territories. This day is observed as the National holiday. Independence Day is the day when India got independence from the British Colonial Rule on 15th August 1947. Independence Day is celebrated every year on 15th August. On this day, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India hoisted India’s National Flag above the Lahore Gate of the Red Fort in Old Delhi. Nehru Ji lifted the flag and gave the speech after hoisting the flag.  

On the day of Independence Day, people pay tribute to all the leaders and freedom fighters who fought for India’s independence. The Prime Minister of India hoists India’s National Flag and delivers speech at the Red Fort in Old Delhi. In the speech, the Prime Minister emphasizes on the past year accomplishments, raises important affairs and call for further augmentation. Twenty- one gun shots are fired in the honour of the solemn occasion.  

Flag hoisting ceremonies and cultural programmes takes place in the state capital including schools, colleges and even in residential areas. National Anthem is sung by the citizens of the country. 

In some places, people celebrate Independence Day by flying colorful kites which adds zest and fun. Patriotic songs and movies are being telecast on this day. The citizens of India are deeply filled with patriotism as they wear ethnic dresses, wristbands, etc. of the tricolor.
