  • - The world famous Time Square New Year’s Eve Ball was first dropped in 1907, after when the fireworks were banned. The original ball on the other hand weighed 700 pounds and featured 100 25 watt bulbs. The ball we see today is much different. 
  • - One of the most earliest New Year celebrations was dated back in 2000 B.C and in in Mesopotamia. 
  • - The January month in the calender is named after Janus, the god with two faces, one looking forward and one looking backward. He is known as the god of beginnings, transitions, gates, doors, passages and endings.  
  • - In ancient days, Persians used to present eggs as New Year’s gift which symbolized productiveness.
  • - As per the old english and German cultural lore, the first person you come across in the new year eve would be the one who wills set the romantic tone for the next 12 months. The same tradition is now celebrated with a kiss at midnight with the special someone in your life.
  • - Firecrackers and noisemakers is a major tradition followed for the celebration of new year with the view to scare away any remaining evil spirits and to ensure a fresh start with lots of luck.
  • - 2,000 pounds of confetti is dropped in the crowd at Times Square during midnight.
